The Community Risk Assessment (CRA) combines historical hazard events with current information to help users understand how hazards affect communities and where risk is concentrated. There are two main components to the CRA – the Community Risk Assessment Dashboard and Risk Reports, both detailed below.

Community Risk Assessment Dashboard
The Community Risk Assessment Dashboard combines data from historical events with current information to make it easy for users to understand how communities are affected by hazards, as well as provide strategies, programs and resources – known as mitigation actions – that can reduce a community’s potential risk of being affected in the future.
- Provides hyperlocal data at the Community District level to help community-based organizations, planners, emergency managers, City agencies, and other partners better understand local risk and community needs.
- Connects climate hazard impacts with community characteristics and resources to help identify opportunities to strengthen resiliency planning.
- Supports informed decision-making and can help communities and partners identify where resources and mitigation actions may have the greatest impact.

Community Risk Reports
Community Risk Reports use data from the CRA alongside information from the HMP to provide an accessible overview of hazard risk in each Community District. Designed for audiences with little or no background in hazard planning, the reports answer three key questions:
- What is the hazard? – Provides background information about the hazard and how it can affect New York City.
- Why should I care? – Highlights local data and information about how the hazard may affect the community.
- What can we do? – Identifies strategies, programs, and resources that can help reduce risk and strengthen community resilience.
